A collection of 7 original coastal watercolor paintings and 11 new coastal prints

COASTAL

a collection of original watercolor seascapes inspired by southern california

I've spent the last 3 months of Spring tucked away in the studio creating so many little watercolour paintings inspired by the coast, many of them have been sold in a local shop in Encinitas, but I've kept just a few to share with you for a time.

These little paintings feel almost like a journal entry, capturing a specific time and place, and the memory of being with the one's you love most. I have created each piece from the most beautiful reference photos captured in the San Diego area thru each season. As we usher in the Summer season and soak in the sunshine, I thought I'd transport us to the Southern California Coast.

While I wouldn't say the Southern California Coast has a great variety of weather, there seems to be a daily ebb and flow in the way the fog rolls in and off the coastline. I personally love to embrace the gloom of the fog and the way it softens the landscape, while also celebrating the warmth of the bright sunshine and the beauty it casts on everything, soaking the earth in a golden glow just before the sun dips below the ocean horizon.

My last visit to Encinitas brought a little different kind of adventure. I had just dropped my parents off at the airport when we stopped at a beautiful view I had pinned on my Google Maps. The top of the sea cliff was not only beautiful, but exhilarating, I felt so nervous that we could drop to our deaths at any moment. We saw a man walking with a surfboard down a steep path to the ocean. If you know me, you know I have a heart for exploring at any cost. So we followed him. We made it down the steep, craggy cliff all the way to the beach where the tide was low and the long, sandy shore was perfect for play.

After an hour or so, my 8 year old son and I decided to make the long trek back up the sea wall when we noticed a man turned away from us, his full backside in view… I told my son “let's give him some privacy while he changes his clothes”. But he didn't put on any clothes. He just turned around and walked directly into the ocean, my curious son watching in astonishment! He had sooooo many questions and then it dawned on me that a long time ago my brother-in-law told me that Black's Beach was a nude beach…….whoops! (at least the view was nice)

These 2 beautiful paintings were inspired by that adventure.

This collection has been such a joy to create! I've spent my time this Spring pouring over past and present experiences on the coast of Southern California, combing through sweet memories of time spent at the beach with the people I love most. Each painting is like a journal entry, capturing a specific time and the feeling of a place. Each painting holds a special story.

The originals have been titled from this self-written poem:

A daily ritual,

a retreat to the beach,

Come walk with me.

Sun soaked Evenings

just before sunset

the colours dip into the sea

followed by twilight,

the glow of the moon.

Discovering Sea cliffs

Standing atop the lookout

Listening to the waves crash,

saltwater and sea.

Find me at the Beach.

Meet me at Sunset

Seaside evening Glow

Where the sea grass grows

Foggy Morning Walks

June Gloom

Soften the landscape.

Each of these pieces were painted slowly and restfully, through the meditation of vacation, a reverence to the landscape. Each painting emerged layer by washy layer.

Each original painting comes signed, framed, and ready to be hung. Each frame is made from sustainably sourced, solid oak wood, with a white archival mat, and durable plexiglass.

Each of these intimate paintings have been carefully scanned, colour corrected, and reproduced into beautiful large scale prints of the highest quality. I purposely kept the texture of the original paintings in tact to express the looseness of each painting and the feeling of the beach. I'm so happy with the way they turned out!

Each of these prints are reproduced on beautiful, thick cotton watercolor paper, to look and feel just like original watercolour paintings.

-Giclee Quality - Printed with 12 colour archival pigment inks

-Museum Quality 1200 dpi Print

-Available in sizes 5x7” to 40x60”

Any would be the perfect addition to your already beautiful home. I personally can’t wait to see “Encinitas at Dusk” as a 40x60” print.

Just as our homes are a vibrant vessel of our most precious memories, I want you to be able to fill your home with meaningful things. We need unique homes with individuality where a feeling of your own personality and lived experience can shine. A place where the people you love can feel a peaceful rest as soon as they enter the doors.

The touch of the artist is left in every brushstroke, every perfect imperfection, texture and colour. There is something so special about collecting art directly from the artist.
