2023: The Year of Creative Freedom
Happy New Year! The New Year is the perfect time to reflect on the things that worked and didn’t work in the last year. In 2022 I set up a pretty rigid schedule around my studio practice and the way I released new work. I even declared that I was ditching collections. It created a nice, consistent work flow for me, and it allowed me to remain focussed in my work, but it often felt rushed, like I wasn’t giving my original paintings the time they deserved.
I’m craving more freedom in my creative practice. The option to just do whatever feels best for my work!
I want more freedom to paint when I most feel inspired and release new work when and how I want to, even if it feels like a body of work would be best released in a collection. I want to ditch all of my own made up rules, because I totally can! I’m the only one who makes them, after all.
The main reason I’m adjusting my studio practice is because I would like to really take my time with my originals. I want to give them the time and attention needed to elevate them to their highest beauty. I’ll be doing things like offering more original paintings framed, and ready to hang. I’ll also be releasing them in ways that feel most aligned with my creative vision.
I plan to travel more this year, to gather the most beautiful inspiration. To paint en plein air. I plan to participate in even more local markets, in places that feel aligned with my ideal collectors. I plan to offer my work at more places like markets, locals shops, and even galleries. This means I may be offering more of my originals in person rather than online.
I will continue to offer at least one new art print each month on my website on the 28th.
I’m feeling excited and invigorated with these changes in 2023! My studio newsletter will be the best place to stay in touch with everything surrounding my studio practice, and I’ll be sure to keep you updated there.
I already know it’s going to be a good year for my business. I have some lofty goals to reach this year. Thank you for being here and supporting my creative work and my family.
