Fireweed | Original Gouache Floral Painting
I love the feeling of walking through a meadow of grasses and wildflowers. As a child, I would wander through my grandmother’s fields and pick bouquets of wildflowers for my own mom.
Fireweed is one of my very favourites! They are the first to grow after a fire and they grow in a blanket along the riverside.
With such bright vast beauty, I love to celebrate this beautiful, vibrant wildflower.
This painting first began with a sketch, a transparent layer of watercolour, layers upon layers of gouache to get the colours just right, and then an ink sketch to complete the painting. This particular painting was also created using my very first handmade gouache paints from natural earth pigments.
This painting is the ninth of 20 gouache original Wildflower Paintings released at 10am MST each Wednesday.
Each of these wildflowers are found locally in Alberta.
